Global University Associations Forum
Press Statement
The 3rd annual meeting of the Global University Associations Forum (GUAF) took place in Beijing, China, from 11-12 October 2024, chaired by the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE). Established in 2021, GUAF serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among nine university associations representing key world regions.
The Beijing meeting addressed important topics, including graduate competency standards, academic career development, and recognition of student mobility. It celebrated the launch of its joint statement in support of the Global Recognition Convention, and discussed follow-up to enhance recognition within and between the regions.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the initial findings of a joint working group focused on the digital transformation of higher education within GUAF member countries and regions. A comprehensive report highlighting similarities and differences is scheduled for publication in 2025.
Looking ahead, GUAF will collectively focus on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on higher education in 2025. At the start of 2025, the GUAF chair will transition from CAHE to the Association of Indian Universities, which will host the 4th GUAF in Autumn 2025 in New Delhi. The Association of African Universities is set to assume the chair in 2026.
