In 2021, the Global Universities Association Forum (GUAF) was jointly lunched by nine education organizations, including European University Association (EUA), China Association of Higher Education (CAHE), American Council on Education (ACE) ,Universities Canada (UC), Association of African Universities (AAU), Association of Arab Universities (AArU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), ASEAN University Network (AUN) and Latin American and the Caribbean Space for Higher Education (ENLACES). It aims to promote exchanges and mutual recognition among university associations and push forward the common development of global higher education. The first and second GUAF were chaired by EUA and AUN respectively, with physical meetings held in Barcelona, Spain in May 2022 and Bangkok, Thailand in September 2023. Joint press statements were released at both meetings. From October 10-12, 2024, CAHE, the third GUAF chair will host the physical meeting in Beijing with the theme of “Higher Education Innovation in the Digital Era”.
